This technique uses at least two different sock yarns simultaneously. By alternating the two colors while crocheting, the characteristic spiral-shaped Gum Gum pattern is created. This makes the socks look really beautiful and colorful, while also being somewhat unique.

What are Gum Gum socks?
Gum Gum socks are socks where several colors or yarns are combined. The special thing about them is that the colors don't just lie on top of each other in straight stripes.
Due to the special way of switching and carrying the two yarns while crocheting, a spiral-like appearance is created that winds around the sock.
This makes the Gum Gum technique particularly interesting if you enjoy working with different colors. You can use two bold contrast colors or combine several similar shades.

What yarn do I need?
For Gum Gum socks, you need at least two sock yarns.
I usually use 4-ply sock yarn for my socks. This makes for beautiful, comfortable-to-wear socks.
If you know your sock size and the appropriate stitch count, you can of course also try other sock yarn weights. It is important that you adjust your stitch count accordingly to the yarn and size.
You will need:
- at least 2 different sock yarns
- a suitable crochet hook
Experiment with your colors
For me, the best part about Gum Gum socks is clearly the color selection.
You can use two completely different colors or work with variegated yarns. Leftovers of matching sock yarn are also great to combine.
Depending on which yarns you use, the finished spiral pattern will look slightly different every time.
