Crochet pattern: Crochet potholders & dishcloth – simple fan pattern for any size

In my new crochet tutorial, I’ll show you how to quickly and easily crochet a beautiful potholder or dishcloth. The great thing about this project: You aren't tied to any fixed dimensions! You can customize the size of your piece to fit your own needs, whether you need small dishcloths for the kitchen or large, sturdy potholders for hot casserole dishes.

Practical, durable, and easy to care for

For this project, I recommend using pure cotton. Cotton is incredibly durable and long-lasting. Another big plus: You can easily wash your finished cloths at temperatures above 40 degrees. This ensures they stay hygienically clean, no matter how often they are used in the kitchen.

One pattern, two functions

The real highlight of this design is the pattern! The catchy fan stitch creates a wonderful, raised texture on one side. These ridges are excellent for scrubbing away stubborn dirt when doing the dishes. The other side, however, has a smooth structure. This not only looks beautiful but also makes the fabric nice and dense, reliably protecting your hands from heat when you use the cloth as a potholder.

Guaranteed success

To get you started right away, I’ve filmed a step-by-step video tutorial. In it, I show you exactly how to crochet this potholder from the very first stitch.

Additionally, you have the option to download the crochet pattern as a PDF in my shop. This written guide is lovingly illustrated, and every step is explained in great detail. My tip: It’s best to work with both formats! Watch the video and use the printed pattern from the shop as a perfect reference right beside you on the sofa.

I hope you have lots of fun crocheting!
